King of Heroes
Gilgamesh has always known beyond a shadow of doubt that he was meant to be king, that he was to rule over all of mankind. Gilgamesh was raised in an orphanage and because of his knowing that he was to be king he was isolated as the other children could not get along with him. Gilgamesh threw himself into studies teaching himself all that he would need to know to rule. As Gilgamesh grew older he grew even more distant from the others at the orphanage accept one Enkidu, Enkidu was Gilgamesh’s only real tie to others and as such he treasured his friendship. As the years past Gilgamesh saw all the treasures of the world as belonging to him due to his divine right to be king this lead to further arrogance which Enkidu sought to quell but was unable to, finally one day Enkidu came to Gilgamesh and told him that he had been ordered by the gods to slay him for his hubris and though he wished other wise he had to obey. Gilgamesh and Enkidu fought but eventually Gilgamesh fatally wounded Enkidu, Gilgamesh remained with Enkidu as he died. Enkidu tried to comfort Gilgamesh saying how in time Gilgamesh would find others of greater value than he but Gilgamesh proclaimed to him “You do have worth. You alone have this worth. I hereby declare. In all this world, only one shall be my friend. Thus—- not for all eternity shall his worth change.” Following this Enkidu died leaving behind a Gilgamesh who raged at the gods who he blamed for having lead Enkidu to this fate. Following this Gilgamesh left the orphanage seeking out immortality so as to escape the fate that had claimed Enkidu and swearing to bring his wrath down upon all of those who he felt where responsible for Enkidu’s death.
